RESOURCES @ HTFL
New York Times Historical Database
Have you ever read history or historical fiction and were curious to find out more about an event that was really interesting to you? That happens often here at the Library, especially among our librarians. We find ourselves using the New York Times Historical Database, which has digitized copy back to 1851! Just recently, after reading a chapter in Midnight Rising by Tony Horwitz about John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry in 1859, Reference Manager Mary Lou Kolowitz was able to access news articles about the uprising to give me a deeper feeling about the thoughts of the nation at that time.
The database can be somewhat tricky to use so please don't hesitate to stop by the Reference Desk for help. It's just another great free resource that you can also access from home with your library card courtesy of your free library!

Reading-A-Round Montly Book Group
Tuesday, July 24 @ 7:00 pm
Are you looking for a good book group? Reading-a-Round may be for you! Join us on the 4th Tuesday of each month for this adult book discussion that is open to all. A different contemporary adult fiction or non-fiction book will be discussed at each meeting.
This month's selection is The Reading Promise: My Father and the Books We Shared by Alice Ozma. From fourth grade until she went away to college, Alice's father, a school librarian, read to her every night for at least 10 minutes. The Reading Promise highlights favorite moments from the many books they read and the life lessons they learned along the way. Ozma's experience, and the book that emerged, confirm the enduring benefits of childhood reading.

Summer Reading Club Show
Cat's Pajamas Music
Wednesday, July 11 @ 7:00 pm
The Cat’s Pajamas makes very cool music for kids, bringing a musical comedy twist to high-octane kid-rock. The Cats put on more than a concert—they invite the audience from the very first note to enter a wild, wonderful world of stories, dance, puppets and props, all backed by a band making great music that just happens to be for kids. Up and down the East Coast, The Cat’s Pajamas captures the imagination of children while thoroughly engaging their families.
The Summer Reading Club is sponsored in part by the the Delaware County Library System, the Friends of HTFL and our 2012 Major Events Business Sponsors: Joel Perlish Photography, Daedalus Education Service, iradiophilly.com, Ardmore Toyota/Scion, Foote Orthodontics, Peppers Café & Catering, Ranieri & Kerns Associations, Casemate Publishers, Law Offices of Daniel J.
