A Message from the President: Building Renovations - What’s Going On?
During the past several months there have been discussions between Haverford Township and the School District of Haverford Township about the possibility of the old Brookline School (1105 Earlington Road) site being made available to the Township as a future site for a new library. When those discussions began, we halted active work and planning on the proposed renovations to our existing site, which were scheduled to begin in late summer or early Fall of 2018. Since the discussions between the Township and the School District were in an exploratory stage, we did not have definitive information to share.
However, last week at the School District’s board meeting, the possibility of the availability of the Brookline site becoming available was discussed in public with representatives of the Township being present.
So, just what is going on?
Yes, the Township and the School District are discussing the transfer of the Brookline site to the Township with the possibility of it being used for a new site for the Library. However, there has been no official action yet by either the Township or the School District regarding the conveyance of that property. We await their decision.
Although this period of uncertainty has hampered our ability to move forward, the good news is that the Brookline site promises more parking for library patrons, something that would be very welcomed by all of us. As the expression goes, “all good things come to those who wait.”
In the meantime, the Library and its dedicated staff, under the new leadership of Director Sukrit Goswami, is here to continue their delivery of excellent service, programs and collections to our patrons and community.
We will keep you posted about the developments with the Brookline site as soon as we know them. Thank you for your patience and support.
