Step into the world of digital fabrication with Laser Lab 101—a hands-on introductory workshop that teaches you the basics of using the Boss Laser Cutter for etching, engraving, and cutting, and includes the opportunity to earn your laser cutter certification for future independent use in the library’s makerspace.
Designed for adults, this session covers:
How laser cutting works: Understand the fundamentals of laser technology, materials, and capabilities
Safety first: Learn essential safety procedures and machine protocols required for certification
Design basics: Use beginner-friendly software (LightBurn or Inkscape) to create a simple cut/engrave file
Hands-on practice: Watch a demo and operate the Boss Laser to complete a small personal project (like a custom keychain or etched tag)
Certification guide
✅ Upon successful completion, participants will receive Laser Cutter Certification and gain permission to reserve and use the Boss Laser Cutter independently during open lab hours.
