Laser Lit: Custom Wooden Bookmark Design for Teens

Event Details

In this tech-meets-art workshop, teens get an introduction to digital design and laser cutting while creating their own custom wooden bookmark. Participants learn the basics of LightBurn Pro, including how to import graphics, create simple vector shapes, adjust line settings, and prepare a file for laser cutting.

Once students finalize their digital designs—featuring anything from fandom art to quotes or geometric patterns—they’ll watch as the Boss Laser cutter etches and cuts their creations into thin wooden bookmark blanks. Staff demonstrate safe machine operation, explain laser-specific design concepts (like kerf, power/speed settings, and line vs. fill), and help teens troubleshoot their designs along the way.

Teens leave with a professionally laser-engraved wooden bookmark they designed themselves, plus an introduction to digital fabrication tools commonly used in makerspaces. This program blends creativity, technology, and hands-on learning—perfect for inspiring young makers and readers alike.
