From the simple world of Edward Hicks’ The Peaceable Kingdom and early Quaker buildings to the elegance of Charles Wilson Peale’s portraits and Pennsylvania’s State House.

Republic and Empire: Tradition and Invention 1800 to 1900 – Tuesday, October 29 — 7:00 pm
Jefferson’s new empire and the classical revival of line and form evolves into the personal revolution of paint and color.

Wars and Restorations 1900 to 1950 – Tuesday, November 5 — 7:00 pm
The nihilism of two world wars, the skyscraper and mechanism of an urban world and the Utopian city and dream home of the future.

Today and Tomorrow 1950 to the present – Tuesday, November 12 — 7:00 pm
All rules are broken. Art speaks on every level in every language. Steel and glass replace brick and stone.
