Family Reading Challenge
The importance of reading aloud to children of all ages, even children who can read on their own, is paramount. Instilling a love of reading in your child, sharing more difficult books that your child may not be able to read alone, encouraging reluctant readers, and increasing family involvement through the sharing of good books are just some of the benefits of reading aloud. Therefore, the Family Reading Challenge is designed to encourage families to increase the amount of time they spend reading together and provide fun incentives throughout the summer!
How to participate: First, download and print the Family Reading Challenge Sheet you may also stop at the Library to pick up a copy. Next, choose a children’s book to read together and spend time reading aloud each week. You set the time—10 minutes in the morning or an hour before bed—whatever works for your family. Finally, fill in the front and back of the tab below if you’ve read together during that week and bring the tab to the Library at your next visit to place it in the raffle jar. Throughout the summer we’ll choose prize winners and at the end of the Family Reading Challenge one lucky family will win our GRAND PRIZE, a Family Membership to the Philadelphia Zoo!
